BronteEmily.jpgCharlotte Bronte was born April 21, 1816. She was born at Thornton, Bradford, in Yorkshire. She was the third of six children. Charlotte was less than five feet tall. She wore glasses because she had myopia. She thought of herself as quite plain. She was strong minded, clever, and ambitious. She had high morals. She was shy when she was around a lot of people, but she would always argue for what she believed in. Her mother died in 1821. In 1824 Charlotte and her sisters were enrolled in Clergy Daughter's School. The next year her sisters Maria and Elizabeth became ill and died. Charlotte and her sister Emily came home after they died. Her siblings and her would write imaginary stories about a world called Angria. She attended Roe Head School but left to teach her siblings at home. She was a governess for many families, but would never stay with one family long. In 1846 Charlotte, Emily, and Ann's poems were published under pseudonyms, which were Currer, Elllis, and Acton Bell. Charlotte also completed The Professor, but it never was published. The next year Charlotte's Jane Eyre was published under her pseudonym. In 1848 they revealed their true names to the publisher. Her brother Branwell died that year. Also Emily died the same year and Ann died the next year. Charlotte married Rev. A. B. Nicholls in 1854. She admired her husband but did not love him. That year, while she was expecting a child, she caught pneumonia. It could have been cured, but she did not receive treatment. She died a painful death probably due to dehydration in 1855.
